The digitization of the VHS tapes from the Heritage Singers' collection is part of Debbie's research-creation project to locate and understand the archives -the collections and spaces - of Jamaican Diasporic history in Canada. The project focuses on the embodied archive of this community for which audiovisual and photographic records are key to preserving much of the richness of this corporeal, affective archive.

Debbie Ebanks Schlums is an artist-researcher and Vanier Scholar pursuing a doctorate in Cinema and Media Studies at York University. Her research explores archiving methodologies of the Jamaican Diaspora through storytelling and media art installation. Debbie was Co-Director of the Fabulous Festival of Fringe Film (2016-2020) and Co-Producer of Saugeen Takes on Film and is a member of the Odeimin Runners media art collective forming new connections between Indigenous and Jamaican communities through the arts.
